FLOAT (2021)
Concept:
「FLOAT」
The act of floating in this space is something slightly different from freedom or openness. It is a space of being carried by the current — a meditation on the individual "will" within the flow.
Circumstances, positions, and environments can serve as a tailwind for one's "will." Yet at times, they push us in directions entirely contrary to it.
To feel the many currents around us, and still choose to act with one's own "will" — to remain authentically oneself within the flow. That is one of the things necessary for the individual to truly shine.
Description:
This work was presented for a limited period as the intro segment of PRISM — a five-sided projection space within Ricoh 3L. Created as a video work reflecting on experiences felt during a three-month internship at the RICOH 3L facility, themed around "joy in work." The piece employs vection — a perceptual phenomenon in which visual stimuli induce the sensation of bodily floating. The work arrives at the conclusion that to find genuine joy within the great "current" of society and organizations, one must understand the flow itself, and express oneself from within it — neither surrendering to it nor simply resisting it.
